Habitat

Ocuping a wide variety of forest areas: wetlands, canopy, tera firma and open savannah.
They have been found from 0 to 3200 meters above sea level.

Smaller brains leave space to fit in their large voiceboxes and teeth.

The ROAR

Howlers can hold a single roar for up to 8 seconds which can be heard for up to 0.62 miles.

Usually reserved for males, females will also get involved.

It is used to reinforce boundaries, increase group cohesion, spatial awareness, asses rivals, avoid predators and gain female attraction.

How To Stay on Top

Although endangered, Howler’s are the most successful New World monkey.

Living in groups of 6-10 they reproduce early and have shorter breaks than others.

Both sexes emigrate from their natal group, it can take males up to two years to be accepted, while females often establish their own troop.
